TRAIN, bus and ferry services across Helensburgh and Lomond will all be subject to changes over the Christmas holiday period.

Here's all you need to know if you're planning on making a journey by public transport to or from Helensburgh and Lomond over the next few days...

Trains

The last train back to Helensburgh Central before Christmas leaves Edinburgh Waverley at 7.52pm on December 24, and calls at Glasgow Queen Street low level at 9.18pm, reaching Helensburgh at 10.13pm.

The last trains from Helensburgh Central on Christmas Eve are at 7.32pm (to Edinburgh), 8.32pm (to Bathgate) and 9.02pm (to Airdrie), with the last of those reaching Dumbarton Central at 9.17pm and Glasgow Queen Street at 9.53pm.

However, there is also a later train to Glasgow available on the West Highland Line, leaving Helensburgh Upper at 10.49pm, calling at Dumbarton Central at 11.02pm, and reaching Glasgow Queen Street at 11.33pm.

For those travelling home to the Helensburgh and Lomond area on the West Highland Line on Christmas Eve, the last train is at the normal time, leaving Glasgow Queen Street at 6.23pm.

There are no trains anywhere in Scotland on Christmas Day.

The first train out of Helensburgh Central on Boxing Day leaves at 8.54am, but on Boxing Day, and through to the early hours of December 29, trains on the Helensburgh-Edinburgh line will not run east of Bathgate because of engineering work.

The first train to Helensburgh Central on December 26 leaves Bathgate at 8.48am.

There are no trains on the West Highland Line on December 26, but a normal service resumes on December 27.

Ferry

There is no ferry service between Kilcreggan and Gourock on Christmas Day or Boxing Day. A normal Monday-Saturday timetable operates on all other days.

Buses

The 315 bus route linking Helensburgh, Kirkmichael and Churchill will not run after 8pm on Christmas Eve, and there is no service on the route on Christmas Day or Boxing Day.

The 316 service (Helensburgh-Garelochhead-Coulport) will not run on Christmas Day, while a Sunday timetable applies on December 26.

There is no service on route 302 (Helensburgh-Arrochar-Carrick Castle) on December 25 or 26, while routes 305 (Luss-Alexandria) and 306 (Helensburgh-Alexandria) will not operate on Christmas Day but will run to Sunday times on Boxing Day.

The 340 route operated by McColl's Coaches, between Helensburgh, the Vale of Leven Hospital and the Royal Alexandra Hospital, will not run on December 25, while a Sunday timetable applies on Boxing Day.

First Glasgow’s 1B service (Helensburgh-Dumbarton-Glasgow) has a Saturday timetable on Christmas Eve and December 27, and a Sunday timetable on December 26, with no service on Christmas Day.

Normal timetables resume on all services – except the 1B bus route – on December 27.
