POLICE in Helensburgh are appealing for the public’s help in tracking down a person who reportedly aimed a laser light at an air ambulance helicopter as it flew over the area.

The pilot of the Glasgow-based helicopter reported a laser being shone into the cockpit of the craft from the vicinity of Cardross railway station at around 9.40pm on Tuesday, December 17, as the helicopter flew at around 2,000 feet overhead.

A police spokesman said: “Lasers put helicopter crews in danger as they can dazzle the pilot and can require evasive action to be taken.

“The pilot reported the incident and police are now looking at mobile phone records and other data in an attempt to identify persons at the location at the material time.”

Police have asked that anyone with information about the person responsible dial 101 and ask for Helensburgh police office.
