THE Met Office has issued a weather warning for large parts of Scotland and the UK as strong winds look set to strike the country on Tuesday.

The yellow 'be aware' warning applies from 5am until 9pm on January 7.

At the time this article was published, the alert – which was issued at lunchtime on Monday – did not apply to Helensburgh specifically, but to north-west Scotland, including much of Argyll and Bute, as well as south-east Scotland and the north-east of England.

But south-westerly winds gusting to almost 50mph are currently being forecast for the Helensburgh area during the day on Tuesday, while heavy rain is also predicted for the same time.

The strongest winds in the Helensburgh area are expected to strike in mid-afternoon on Tuesday, with prolonged spells of rain from mid-morning through to the early evening.
