OUTLINE proposals for a major development comprising a hotel, offices, pub and restaurant at the east end of Helensburgh have been lodged with Argyll and Bute Council.

A 'proposal of application' (PAN) notice for a site 'north and west of Iona Stables', to the east of the town's Waitrose supermarket, has been published on the local authority's website.

The notice, which is not a formal planning application, states that a public consultation will be held on the proposed development in Helensburgh next month.

The PAN notice does not include any further information about the size of the hotel or office development, or the brand of the proposed pub or restaurant.

It says that the notice "has been published on behalf of Pearson Property Promotions Ltd", and that further information can be obtained, and comments made on the proposal, by contacting Iceni Projects, 177 West George Street, Glasgow G2 2LB and/or by email to glasgow@iceniprojects.com by Thursday, February 27 at the latest.

Comments can also be made at the consultation event, which will be held at the Commodore Hotel's coffee shop on Thursday, February 13 between 2pm and 7pm.

The limited documents so far available on the proposal can be viewed on Argyll and Bute Council's website by searching for the reference code 19/02597/PAN.

Because the PAN notice is not a formal planning application, the public cannot yet make comments directly to Argyll and Bute Council; that can only happen once a formal application for planning permission is lodged.

The notice took effect on December 18, and in a letter to Iceni Projects, Sandra Davies from the council's major applications team, which is dealing with the proposal, states that "as such no formal planning application relative to the above proposal can be made before March 11, 2020".

In a separate letter to the company, Ms Davies has asked for confirmation that Helensburgh Community Council has been consulted and provided with a copy of the PAN notice.

The site is earmarked for potential use for business, hotel and "garages selling or displaying motor vehicles" in the current Argyll and Bute local development plan, and for "business, hotel and ancillary employment related uses" in the authority's new local development plan, 'Local Development Plan 2' (LDP2).

A consultation on the LDP2 proposals runs until Thursday, January 23.
