THE developers behind plans to build homes on the site of a yachting clubhouse just outside Helensburgh will put their plans up for scrutiny at the end of this month.

The Royal Northern and Clyde Yacht Club (RNCYC) is hoping to secure public support for plans to convert its existing clubhouse in Rhu into residential units, to build more new homes elsewhere on the site, and to build a new clubhouse, along with access, parking, yard and boat storage facilities, at Rhu Marina.

A consultation event, organised by project managers Dickie and Moore Homes, will be staged at the clubhouse on Wednesday, January 29, from 3pm to 8pm.

No planning application has yet been submitted to Argyll and Bute Council, but it is planned that one will be submitted later in 2020.

A notice advertising the event, published in the January 16 print edition of the Advertiser, states: “The exhibition will illustrate the proposed approach to development, and representatives of the applicant will be on hand to explain the proposal.

“There will be an opportunity to provide comment on feedback forms.

“The applicant will take all comments into consideration in progressing toward the submission of a formal planning application.”

Comments can also be made after the meeting to david@northplan.co.uk.

A deadline of Wednesday, February 19 has been set for all public comments on the outline proposals.

The announcement of the public consultation event comes after Argyll and Bute councillors urged the applicants to undertake “adequate and early consultation with the local community” over the proposals through Rhu and Shandon Community Council.

Members of the council’s planning, protective services and licensing committee agreed last month that the impact of any infill on the nearby Gareloch shore should be taken into account before a formal planning application is lodged.

They also warned the applicant to consider the scale and height of the development, stating that “a multi storey may be considered over development by the local community”.

Although they will be able to submit comments to the applicants, the public will not be able to submit feedback to Argyll and Bute Council until the official planning application has been lodged.
