THREE new office buildings are set to come to HM Naval Base Clyde at Faslane, along with additional car parking, bike storage and a smoking shelter.

Argyll and Bute Council has given the go-ahead for the planning application for the development, which a report says will support ongoing expansion work at the base.

A report states that the new buildings will mostly accommodate staff already working elsewhere, providing desk space, recreational areas and changing facilities.

The application was approved by the council’s planning team, with no objections raised from the public or from consultees.

A handling report by a planning officer from the local authority said: “It is considered the scale of the building would be acceptable within the context of this industrial site which contains a number of very large buildings including the single living accommodation units and the ship lift on the shore side.

“The siting, layout and design of the building would therefore be in keeping with the heavy industrial character of the naval base in accordance with policy.

“The proposal poses no risk to pedestrians or road traffic users and considered acceptable in terms of parking and associated transport matters.

“Taking account of the above, it is recommended that planning permission be approved subject to conditions.”
