THE Met Office has issued a weather warning for Helensburgh, and much of Scotland, for the start of the new working week.

The forecaster says falling temperatures, along with rain and hill snow, are likely to lead to travel disruption between midnight and 10am on Monday, January 27.

The warning covers all of central and southern Scotland, northern England and Northern Ireland.

The Met Office's forecast for Sunday and the early hours of Monday predicts "rain and hill snow moving eastwards Sunday night with ice likely to bring some travel disruption",

The forecaster has advised the public to expect "some injuries from slips and falls on icy surfaces" and to be aware for "probably some icy patches on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths".

It also states: Some roads and railways may be affected with longer journey times by road, bus and train services

In addition, any drivers heading north from Helensburgh on Monday are being warned to prepare for snow, as well as ice, across much of the Highlands throughout the day.

Temperatures in Helensburgh are being predicted to reach an overnight low of 3 degrees Celsius, but the wind chill factor is expected to make it feel a degree or two below freezing.

After the weather warning expires, at 10am on Monday, sunny spells and clear skies are expected for much of the rest of Monday, though temperatures will still feel close to freezing point.
