AN ALLEGED drink driver is to appear at Dumbarton Sheriff Court next month after reportedly being found behind the wheel of a car in Helensburgh town centre while under the influence of alcohol.

Police officers on uniformed patrol near Columba Street reportedly saw a man sitting in the driver’s seat of a Ford Ranger, with his seat belt on, while it was parked in a car park.

The vehicle’s engine was said to be running and due to the time and location – just before midnight on Saturday, January 18 – officers stopped to check all was in order.

The 24-year-old, from Lancaster, was allegedly observed to be under the influence and smelling of alcohol.

Police say that the man failed a preliminary roadside breath test, and that he was then arrested before being taken to Clydebank police office.

According to police, further samples of breath were analysed and confirmed an alcohol content exceeding the legal limit.

The man was released on an undertaking to appear at Dumbarton Sheriff Court on Wednesday, February 12.
