A HERO schoolboy saved his mum’s life thanks to some quick thinking – and a chocolate biscuit.

Brave Daniel Tucker kept his cool when mum Lisa suddenly took a serious diabetic attack and passed out on the sofa.

Instead of panicking, the 12-year-old rushed for the fridge, picked up a Penguin biscuit and held it in her mouth until she took a bite, lifting her blood sugar level and keeping her alive long enough for an ambulance to arrive.

Paramedics told 35-year-old Lisa when she came round that if it hadn’t been for her son’s level- headedness she wouldn’t have survived.

Lisa, who suffers from ME as well as insulin dependent diabetes, said that the last thing she remembers was feeling tired while going to run a bath, then having to lie down.

“Normally I get a warning when it is about to happen," she said, "but this time I was absolutely exhausted and had never felt that way before.

“Apparently I was out for an hour. All I remember is hearing these voices that I didn’t recognise, then waking up with two men in green standing over me.”

The hypoglycaemic attack happened at around 7pm on Saturday, while Daniel was out playing with his friend John McPhee, near their Kent Drive homes.

The Hermitage Academy pupil found his mum unconscious on the settee but knew what to do immediately.

Daniel said: “I was shaking, but I’d seen her like that before so I knew what it was.

“Mum had told me before that chocolate helps, so I put the chocolate near her lips and held it. Then she took a bite of it.

“I’m happy I saved her.”

Eight year-old John kept a watchful eye on their patient while Daniel called neighbour Janette McPhee, who gave Lisa some sugar water and called an ambulance.

A beaming Lisa said: “I don’t think Dan realised the extent of what he had done until the paramedics said so.

“I’m so proud of him and I’d like to thank Daniel, John and Janette because they easily could have panicked or just thought that I was sleeping.

“It just shows you how quick thinking can save a life.”
