ARTISTS in Helensburgh will have a chance to learn the skills of silk painting at a workshop in the town this weekend.

Professional textile artist Sofia Perina Miller will lead a silk painting workshop in the gallery’s first-floor teaching space this Saturday, February 1, from 1-5pm.

This Saturday’s workshop is suitable for beginners and for those with no artistic ability: if that’s you, firstly you’ll learn how to stretch your silk ready for paint application, followed by a painting demo showing you how to apply the colours.

You will then enjoy the rest of the afternoon playing with colour and creating your own unique piece of painted silk.

This weekend’s class is not the only feature of the Oak Tree Gallery’s busy events calendar: on Saturday, February 15, oil painting artists will have a chance to hone their skills at a full-day class led by acclaimed painter Thomas Cameron.

The class starts at 11am and will last for five hours, including a one hour lunch break, and is suitable for artists of all abilities.
