THE West of Scotland Military Wives Choir will host a special afternoon of entertainment in Helensburgh to celebrate Mother’s Day.

The singing society was set up in 2012 after being inspired by the BBC programme The Choir, and is part of the Military Wives Choirs Foundation, which is a network of more than 80 choirs situated in the UK and in British bases abroad.

Miriam Walker, who is a professional French horn player and has worked with some of the UK’s most prestigious orchestras, leads the group as they perform at an array of events across the country, from local care homes to weddings and garden parties to much larger theatres such as Stirling Castle, the Scottish National Portrait Gallery and Glasgow’s Royal Concert Hall.

The group has also performed alongside Lulu, Pop Idol winner Michelle McManus and Heather Small of M People.

And they’ll be taking to the stage of the United Reformed Church in their home town of Helensburgh for Mother’s Day, Sunday, March 22 at 3pm for an afternoon of well-known tunes – from the Beatles and Joni Mitchell to famous hits from musicals – and heart-warming tales, alongside a delicious selection of home baking.

A spokesperson for the choir said: “Following the success of their last album, ‘Remember’, and busy concert schedule last year, the West of Scotland Military Wives Choir are delighted to be performing in their home town of Helensburgh for what is set to be a memorable concert.

“This concert will be close to our hearts, as many of us are not able to spend the day with our families due to the nature of forces life.
