THE owner of a Helensburgh business which picked up a prestigious prize at a national awards ceremony last month has said “there’s no stopping us now” as she targets more industry success.

Denise Murphy, who runs Helensburgh Flowers in West Princes Street, told the Advertiser of her delight at claiming best florist at the fifth annual Confetti Awards at Glasgow’s Crowne Plaza Hotel.

Following a glitzy ceremony on Sunday, January 26, at which fellow Helensburgh and Lomond business The Loch Lomond Arms Hotel scooped the regional winner of the west award for best wedding venue under £6,000, Denise looked ahead to a blossoming future for her specialist shop.

“We’re absolutely delighted,” she said. “We just love what we do and we’re chuffed to bits at the award. We have worked hard but we had no inkling at all that we might win. We were just delighted to be named as finalists because the category was quite strong.

“Our industry is so hard. You put a lot of effort into weddings because it’s somebody’s big day.

“We’re just a small independent flower shop who love the industry. There’s no stopping us now.”

Denise, who comes from a family of florists in Dublin and has been in charge at the Helensburgh store for 25 years, also praised the other winners on the night which celebrates the best of the Scottish wedding industry.

She added: “We all support each other and over the years we have just become really good friends. Helensburgh and Lomond is a beautiful place to get married.”

A post on the Loch Lomond Arms Hotel Facebook page said: “Thank you to all our #fabuLUSS couples - we can’t wait for the season ahead.”
