A TEENAGER who told police he had his "gran's cheese knife" on him after being stopped and searched in a Helensburgh street will discover his fate next month.

The 17-year-old, who cannot be identified because of his age, pleaded guilty to a charge of possession of a bladed weapon in Williamson Drive last year.

Dumbarton Sheriff Court heard on February 18 that police spotted the accused staggering along a public footpath in the Kirkmichael area at around 2.25am on November 21, 2019.

After being approached by the officers, the accused admitted to having taken approximately 50 street Valium pills.

He was then searched and asked if he had anything on him, to which he replied: "Aye, I've got my gran's cheese knife."

The blade was removed from the man's jacket pocket and he was detained before being taken to Clydebank police office.

The accused's defence solicitor told the hearing that his client "has always accepted his guilt in relation to this matter".

The offence was committed while the teen was on bail for an unrelated matter being dealt with at Glasgow Sheriff Court.

Sentence was deferred in order for background reports to be prepared.

The case was adjourned until March 13 and the accused, who had appeared at court from Polmont young offenders institution, was remanded in custody.
