A £3.2 million conservation project at one of Helensburgh's most iconic buildings has been shortlisted for a national architectural award.
The steel mesh box around the Hill House, which was constructed last year by Carmody Groarke, has been named alongside some of the country's finest new builds in the 2020 Royal Incorporation of Architects in Scotland (RIAS) awards.
Charles Rennie Mackintosh's domestic masterpiece will be wrapped in the world's largest chainmail structure for up to 10 years to allow the building to dry out before preservation work begins.

The Hill House 'box' is one of 18 finalists for the awards, from 80 entries, and is up against other buildings including the Maryhill Locks housing development in Glasgow, the sportscotland National Sports Training Centre in Largs, and the Egg Shed museum and community hub in Ardrishaig.
Reflecting on this year’s submissions and the climate challenges for Scottish architecture, chair of the RIAS Awards judging panel, Jenny Jones, commented: "Given that these projects would have been commissioned at the very least, several years ago, there are some very strong carbon-conscious submissions which demonstrate an attention to the challenges we all face.
"The greater shift will become evident in the next years if we continue to challenge and create innovative responses as to how we can build with environmental consciousness."
