A 74-YEAR-OLD woman's careless driving caused the death of her 99-year-old passenger in a crash on the A82 near Luss last year.

Alison Samuel was at the wheel of a black Vauxhall Astra when it struck a minibus on the trunk road near Ardallie House on March 29, 2019.

Violet Terrett, who was a passenger in the Astra at the time, died at the scene as a result of her injuries.

Samuel later pleaded guilty to a charge of causing death by careless driving.

The 74-year-old, of Durlston Road, Kingston, Surrey, admitted driving "without due care and attention, or without reasonable consideration for other persons using the road" by driving on to the opposing carriageway and colliding with the oncoming Mercedes Benz Vito.

Police, fire and ambulance crews, including an air ambulance, attended the scene after receiving a report of a crash between a car and a minibus shortly before 3pm.

The crash happened near Aldochlay, between the turn-offs at the northern and southern ends of Luss village itself.

The minibus driver and his five passengers received minor injuries which did not require hospital treatment.

The charge admitted by Samuel states that "you did collide with said vehicle, whereby both said vehicles were damaged and the said Violet Terrett, then a front seat passenger in your motor vehicle, was so severely injured that she died".

Samuel was not present when the case called for sentencing at Dumbarton Sheriff Court on March 17.

Sheriff John Hamilton deferred sentence further until April 7, although the present lockdown instructions mean sentence may not be passed until a later date.
