HELENSBURGH residents are being asked to dig deep to help those in need during the coronavirus crisis by donating food to a local community group.

With elderly and vulnerable people being advised to stay indoors for up to 12 weeks to protect themselves against the spread of Covid-19, many are relying on the goodwill of relatives, friends and neighbours to maintain their supply of vital products.

And Kirkmichael woman Liz Simpson has stepped up to the plate to provide for those unable to leave home.

As chair of the Kirkmichael Community Development Group (KCDG), she has being collecting food and distributing it among members who would otherwise go without.

In an appeal for further support, Liz said: "The KCDG are trying to get donations of food to look after the elderly in the community.

"We usually have an afternoon tea for them every Wednesday in the County Hotel but this has stopped due to the virus, so we have collected, bought and had donations of food delivered, but we need more.

"If you know of anyone who would benefit from this please get in touch. If you can donate in any way be it by goods or money please contact myself via the Kirkmicheal Facebook page or call me on 01436 675451."

Liz added: "I would like to thank everyone who has donated to the old folk of Kirkmichael so far.

"I am overwhelmed with the kindness of everyone, after all I could be feeding your granny.

"We still need more stuff to make sure we can keep them going through all this, so please search your cupboards for anything you can spare.

"Thank you so much to those of you who have already donated. You know who you are and believe me you will be rewarded in heaven."
