ARGYLL and Bute Council has announced a Helensburgh car park is to close for the duration of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The parking area at Kidston Park, off Rhu Road Lower, is being shut at the request of Police Scotland, according to council officials.

It's the first council car park to be shut in Helensburgh during the pandemic, although parking areas in Luss, Arrochar and Duck Bay owned by the local authority were shut before the Easter weekend to deter visitors.

A council spokesperson said: "Police Scotland advised that Kidston car park has been popular over the last few weeks with visitors parking their vehicles there and then walking along the esplanade.

"The local Inspector has asked the council if the car park can be closed to deter this from happening.

"This decision is in line with the decisions already taken to close car parks in Luss, Arrochar and at Duck Bay.

"National guidance is clear – only travel if it’s essential. We all have a duty to act responsibly and keep each other safe from the threat of Covid-19.

"We want to welcome visitors back to Argyll and Bute, but once it is safe to travel."
