NURSES at Glasgow Royal Infirmary have been given free hand moisturiser after a local hair colour firm famous for its rainbow dyes switched production to help key workers during the coronavirus outbreak.

Now more than 60,000 bottles have been delivered across the country.

With hair and beauty salons currently closed throughout lockdown, Crazy Color, one of the brands run by Professional Beauty Systems in Inchinnan, was keen to help NHS staff and other frontline carers during the crisis.

“We had heard countless stories from NHS workers about the damaging effects to their skin caused by PPE and constant handwashing, so we decided to putogether all of our resources to lend a helping hand,” said spokesperson Katie Braden.

“We support Homestart Renfrew and Inverclyde with our Christmas boxes for vulnerable children in the area each year and our contact from there asked if we could supply the Glasgow Children’s Hospital charity with a moisturiser.

“One of our staff was also approached by a local shopkeeper asking to do the same to contribute.”

She added: “Crazy Color is an iconic and fun hair brand that comes in a variety of different vibrant colours and is open to all.

“It seemed fitting that this brand, with its rainbow of colours, should tie in with the rainbow that has become such a symbol of the fantastic work carried out by the NHS during this crisis.”

She added: “Everyone pulled out all the stops to produce the Crazy Color moisturiser as quickly as possible, with the process taking just a few days.”

“The New Product Development team worked with designers to create a special label, which was printed in record time and kindly donated by Macfarlane Labels.

“The production staff then donated their time for free to run the line to fill the bottles – a fantastic effort by everyone involved.”

Using its network of Crazy Color Brand Ambassadors, who have recommended local hospitals and care homes, the company has been sending out bottles of anti-bacterial hand gels and moisturisers across the country, including to the GRI, the Royal Alexandra in Paisley and the Erskine Home.

Katie added: “We are delighted to be able to supply this as a small gesture in appreciation of the huge effort made by the NHS.

“We’ve had a fantastic response from the wonderful hospital teams and we will continue to safely deliver these this week and hope to reach as many hospitals as possible.”

Crazy Color was launched in 1977, in the middle of the punk rock explosion in Britain, by awardwinning stylist Renato Brunas.

His initial shades have expanded into a range of more than 40 which are now sold around the world.
