Since the last Community Council contribution to the Advertiser there has been little change to the lockdown restrictions. This means that we continue to maintain contact via the Zoom medium for our monthly meetings.

Thanks to Tariq Durrani, we have also branched into information briefings, or webinars, which consist of a presentation on a subject of interest to the town followed by a question and answer session.

We have had a good public response to the first one given by Stewart Noble on the History of Helensburgh, and the programme continues through to September with the details for the next few months as shown below:

June 18 – Vision for Helensburgh (Norman McNally, HCC);

July 2 – Strengths and Weaknesses of Local Democracy (Norman Muir, HCC);

August 6 – The Rotary Movement (John MacPherson, Helensburgh Garelochside Rotary);

August 20 – Friends of Hermitage Park (Fiona Baker).

Anyone wishing to attend any, or all, of the webinars is more than welcome, and should drop an email to Tariq at tsdurrani@gmail.com for instructions to join in.

The range of inventive and resourceful measures by our local businesses to keep going and supply a variety of services to the community during lockdown has been inspirational.

It drives the message home that our local businesses are to be treasured and supported in the times that lie ahead.

Likewise, the range of volunteering support serving a wide spectrum of support requirements has brought the community together.

All of us must make every effort to ensure that this spirit is maintained and strengthened to make the town a better place, once we return to normal.

Normal attrition of members has raised four vacancies in the Community Council.

Until the local election process has been re-established, probably in a year’s time, we are allowed to co-opt members to fill these vacancies.

Anyone who wishes to bring energetic influence to town activities, is invited to contact the Convener on conn756@gmail.com.

It is a considerate report and the HCC will be raising observations on it shortly.
