RECYCLING services in Helensburgh are back up and running as normal as of Tuesday morning.

Argyll and Bute Council announced on Monday night that the Blackhill site was to reopen on June 16, and that the temporary recycling site at the Helensburgh pier car park would close.

All the local authority's 'household civic amenity sites' are now accepting the full range of waste disposal and recycling services.

In a statement posted on Facebook a spokesperson for the council said: "Thank you for your patience during this time and thank you to everyone who has stored their recycling at home until we were able to get back up and running again.

"Suitable items and materials brought to the sites for recycling will be transferred to appropriate recycling companies for onward re-processing into new items or products.

"Please remember, the same reduced opening hours, traffic management and social distancing measures will still be in place at all our sites to keep our customers and staff safe. Queues may still be possible so please be patient."

The temporary site on Helensburgh pier – which, like other civic amenity sites across Argyll and Bute, opened on June 1 – was set up to avoid the risk of long queues of traffic waiting to enter the Blackhill site from the A818, following the easing of lockdown restrictions at the end of May.

But facilities were limited at all sites and, initially at least, only cars were allowed in.

On Friday, June 12 those restrictions were eased to allow access for vans and trailers to dispose of general domestic and garden waste.
