Police in Argyll and West Dunbartonshire are advising Helensburgh’s cyclists to take extra security measures following a wave of bike thefts over recent weeks.
Inspector Mo Boyle, from the area’s community policing team, said: “In recent months there has been a welcome increase in people taking to their bikes for exercise. Unfortunately, we have also seen an increase in the theft of bicycles.
“There are steps cyclists can take to reduce the chance of their bike being stolen. Most thefts are of unattended bikes in gardens, communal spaces and public areas and not from locked garden sheds or garages.

“Please don’t make it easy for the criminal and Don’t leave your bike unlocked and unattended, even for a short time.
“We also recommend using a good quality heavy duty bike lock which will often deter an opportunist thief – overcoming a good lock will slow a thief down and can be worthwhile when fitted properly.”
Anyone with information about any bike theft is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101.
