ALMOST a hundred 'activity packs' have been handed out to older people in Helensburgh to keep their minds and hands busy during the coronavirus lockdown.

The Grey Matters - Active Ageing group for the area's over-60s provided 95 activity packs to members, including art and knitting, puzzle, cross stitch, seed and home baking packs.

The activity packs were paired with the group's weekly Zoom meetings, with the home baking pack proving hugely popular, and had members sharing recipes and photos of their baking with each other via social media.

Alison Gildea, Grey Matters coordinator, said: “We were delighted to be able to provide packs to keep people busy during lockdown.

"It’s given people a focus and the feedback has been heart-warming.

“We would like to say a big thank you to our funders and of course to our wonderful volunteers who helped distribute the packs all over Helensburgh and Lomond.”

One Grey Matters member said of the packs: “It lifted my spirits to think there were people out there thinking of ways they could help others which made me try and do a little of the same to someone else. Thank you.”

Another added: “It was a treat, and a lockdown highlight, to receive my box. The baking ingredients were much appreciated, especially the flour which was out of stock in the shops.

"I planted my flower seeds straight away and look forward to them brightening my days when they grow.”
