PLANS have been submitted to develop 48 new flats on Dumbarton Road, Old Kilpatrick.

The Link Group Ltd is seeking permission from West Dunbartonshire Council for a development of three-and four-bedroom properties in two six-storey blocks.

The plans also feature associated road access, 56 parking spaces, open space and landscaping.

Information on the site, which is located on the northern side of Dumbarton Road, was brought before the planning committee last week via video conference.

But members agreed they needed more information on the proposals before being able to rule on its viability.

Historically the site formed part of the grounds of the former Dalnottar House and sits opposite the Forth and Clyde Canal.

The land was previously used for industrial purposes, as the home of a warehouse and factory operated by Craft Steel Ltd.

While the business has recently closed and is no longer in operation, the factory and warehouse buildings and hardstanding remain in-situ.

If permission is granted, four ground floor units will be wheelchair accessible and lifts will be installed within each block. Each block features a butterfly roofline on the gable elevation with solar panels on the sections facing south.

A central courtyard area of amenity open space would be located between the two blocks and a further smaller comfort area would be located to the rear of the site.

A new opening from Dumbarton Road would be formed to the east of the site and the existing access/egress infilled using stone from the down takings required to form the new access.

Fifty-six parking spaces will be predominantly located to the rear of the site, with some also situated along the eastern boundary.

The decision on the application has been continued until further notice.
