POLICE in Helensburgh arrested an alleged shoplifter after he reportedly stole make-up and beauty products from a town supermarket.

Staff at the Co-op store in Sinclair Street contacted police at around 11am on the morning of Saturday, June 20 stating that a male had stolen items from the shop.

Following a review of CCTV footage at the store, a man who fitted the description of the suspect was spotted nearby and after officers spoke to him he was allegedly confirmed to be in possession of the stolen items.

The 46-year-old, from Dumbarton, was arrested and taken to Clydebank police office.

Police say that due to the man’s “extensive criminal history”, he was held in custody for the rest of the weekend before appearing at court on Monday, June 22.
