TWO people were rescued following a blaze at a flat in Barrhead.

Emergency services were alerted after a fire broke out at around 7am yesterday morning in Gertrude Place.

Firefighters pulled two people from the three-storey building, where one suffered from smoke inhalation and the other had a suspected shoulder injury.

A spokesperson from the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service told the Barrhead News: “We were alerted at 7.24am on Tuesday, June 30 to reports of a fire within a flat on Gertrude Place, Barrhead.

“Three fire appliances and one height vehicle were mobilised to the scene, where crews extinguished a fire within a top-floor flat of a three-storey tenement building.”

Fire crews used a thermal image camera to make sure the fire had not spread.

“A thermal image camera was used to check for any fire spread, and ensured the area was safe,” the spokesperson added.

“Two casualties - one suffering from light smoke inhalation and one with a suspected shoulder injury - were passed into the care of Scottish Ambulance Service.”
