The chairman of Falkirk Football Club has been appointed to the board of a planned new distillery and craft brewery in Luss.

Gary Deans, who has chaired the SPFL League One club’s board since December 2019, is one of two new appointments to the board of directors of the Glen Luss Distillery company.

Mr Deans is already a director of several other businesses including HALO Kilmarnock, Indinature, and the Freedom Bakery social enterprise.

He said: “I am delighted to be joining the team. This is an exciting and unique opportunity and I am looking forward to helping establish Glen Luss Distillery as a premium brand.”

The second new appointee, Brian Woods, has spent much of his working life in the drinks industry, having worked for Paragon Vintners, Angostura, Beam Suntory (the firm behind the After Shock brand) and Diageo.

Mr Woods added: “I’m thrilled to be working with such talented entrepreneurs as Trystan, Patrick and Dan.

“Their concept of creating an experimental craft distillery on the banks of Loch Lomond is both disruptive and compelling.

“I am excited to play a part in developing their proposition and seeing it come to life.”

The company says it plans to create 26 jobs and an as-yet-unspecified number of modern apprenticeships through visitor experiences and a range of experimental premium, drinks, including whisky, rum, vodka, gin and craft beers.

Subject to planning permission for the scheme being granted by the Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park Authority, the project's doors are due to open to the public in May 2021.
