AN ONLINE fund-raiser for the family of Rhu teenager Kirk Allan has collected more than £15,000 since it was set up on Monday.

The body of the 19-year-old was found within an address in the Johnson Court area of Helensburgh on Saturday morning, July 25 and a man has since been charged with murder.

Kevin Murray, 30, made no plea and was remanded in custody after appearing at Dumbarton Sheriff Court on Monday; he is also charged with being in possession of a bladed article.

A GoFundMe page has now received over £15,000 from more than 700 donors, with messages of support also flooding in for the deceased teen and his family.

Organiser Jamie Peak said on the fund-raising page: "We as Kirk's friends have decided to create a GoFundMe page where any donations made will go to his family for things such as cost of funeral and anything else they need that may help with the bereavement process.

"It’s important for us all to remember Kirk in all the brightness he brought to everyone’s life and the everlasting memories that have brought so much joy to so many of us.

"Rest easy Kirky boy."

A post from The Brae Shop in Rhu's Facebook page on Tuesday read: "The management and staff of the Brae Shop are all very sad and upset at the terrible news of Kirk Allan's senseless passing.

"Kirk was a regular at the shop and was always pleasant and polite to us - even when we asked him for ID!

"Money won't bring Kirk back but hopefully the messages and donations will be of some comfort to Kirk's family."

Commenting on the page, Anne Milne said: "Totally heartbroken that we have lost one of our Rhu boys. So many wonderful memories of your handsome Kirk. Sending you my heartfelt condolences."

Laura Cathro wrote: "We knew Kirk from years gone by and his lovely family, our hearts go out to them all. So so sad."

Tony McCann posted: "Rhu boys stick together even when we're apart... RIP young Kirk."
