HELENSBURGH’S Colquhoun Square will once again ring out to the skirl of the pipes this weekend - two weeks after a young musician was forced to move on following a noise complaint.

Teenager Mark Morrison was spoken to by police on Saturday morning, July 25 after performing tunes on his bagpipes at the monthly Market in the Square.

Officers informed the 15-year-old that they had received a noise complaint and the Alexandria youngster had to cut short his live gig, much to the disappointment of spectators on the day.

The Vale of Leven Academy pupil received hundreds of online messages of support afterwards and despite mum Mhorag telling the Advertiser last week that she was “doubtful whether he could come back to Helensburgh”, a follow-up appearance has now been scheduled.

In a post on Facebook, the teen said: “My family and I are totally overwhelmed by the support I have received from local businesses, the community of Helensburgh and the surrounding area.

“I am delighted to say that with the help of Davi Stewart at the Terrace Coffee House I will be back in Colquhoun Square on Saturday, August 8 at 11.30am.

“Hopefully the weather is on my side.”

Mark appeared on The Voice Kids last month after making it through to the final 44 auditionees on the TV talent show and he has also been performing at care homes throughout lockdown whilst raising money for local charities.
