ASYLUM seekers will take to Colquhoun Square this Saturday to campaign against human rights violations in Zimbabwe.
Helensburgh resident Harriet Ndlovu will be leading the protests with help from fellow asylum seekers and supporters of the Zimbabwean Lives Matters campaign, which stands for the victims of human rights offences committed by the Zimbabwean government and its security forces.
According to Human Rights Watch, Zimbabwe remains highly intolerant of basic human rights, peaceful gatherings and free speech.

During a protest in January 2019, the government’s security forces responded by killing at least 17 people, raping at least 17 women, shooting and injuring 81 people and arresting over 1,000 suspected protestors in door-to-door raids.
Harriet, who was nominated as one of the Advertiser’s Lockdown Heroes after creating colourful cloth face masks at home to help protect the public, said: “We will highlight the problems that are going in Zimbabwe – human rights are being violated so we are going to protest along with photos and placards.”
Saturday’s protest takes place at 2pm.
