A RHU-based photographer has completed her latest project taking photos of local P7 school leavers as they embark into the next stage of their education.

Louise Cairns, who runs Life in Focus Portraits from Gareloch Road, snapped photos of the youngsters as she knew that the P7 pupils had missed out on many of the traditional and fun activities that the end of primary school leavers normally enjoy; outdoor activity trips, leavers assemblies, prom, parties and orientation visits to their new schools.

Many didn’t even have the chance to say goodbye properly to their friends.

Louise told the Advertiser: “I know first-hand how photography and, in particular, special photographs, can help us feel better about sad situations. I knew I had to use my photography skills to make a lasting memory for those children leaving primary in 2020.

“Although all of the restrictions around coronavirus meant I couldn’t offer class photographs, I could use the skills I have in editing images, to make a class photograph like no other. I invited children into my studio individually and then created a montage of their entire class.

“It was important to me that no child was left out due to financial reasons. Coronavirus has affected our local economy badly and many families are feeling financial pressure due to this. I offered the service completely free, allowing people to contribute only if they could or wanted to.

“The results are amazing and have created a lasting memory for these children who have had such a strange 2020. Each child is being gifted a print of their own class and I have created a montage of all the leavers who participated.”

Susanna Dickson, mother of Colgrain Primary leaver, Xander, commented: “My son has Autism Spectrum Disorder and Louise was very patient with him making sure he was comfortable with everything and showing him all equipment and what would be used.

“She made the whole session fun and engaged my son throughout. We have used Louise for photo sessions before and she always goes above and beyond. She’s the only photographer that has engaged with my son so that he’s comfortable having his picture taken.

“I love that she offered this lovely gift to all P7 pupils in the area as a memento of their short time in primary seven. Fantastic local business with a lovely lady at the helm.”
