YOUNG and old fund-raising heroes from Helensburgh walked, hunted and hula hooped their way around the town last weekend in the first ever ‘virtual Kiltwalk’.

The annual charity event’s traditional mass participation walks had to be cancelled this year due to the coronavirus pandemic and restrictions on large gatherings, however, neither that - nor a bit of stormy autumn weather - could stop people from taking part in their own money-raising initiatives.

Members of Helensburgh children’s charity Fun First got involved in the events, with Sarah Barlow completing a 5k walk while hula hooping on Friday to raise just over £200.

Meanwhile, manager Vicky Brindley and Wendy Quinn were joined by daughters Eleanor and Florence on a ‘wee wander’ and scavenger hunt along the waterfront on Saturday, completing almost seven miles and helping towards a total of just under £600 raised for the charity.

Another young fund-raising star, Fraser Gildea, also joined in the weekend fun by walking almost 25,000 steps through the town, raising more than £200 towards the Grey Matters - Active Ageing group, of which mum Alison is the coordinator.

The money will support the charity’s development of a new hub, in West Princes Street, for the area’s over-60s population.
