A FASHION designer from Helensburgh is hoping her sustainable clothing brand catches the eye as she gets set to make her debut at London Fashion Week.

Laura Ironside, who created her eponymous label in 2018, grew up in Coulport and attended Lomond School before graduating from Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design in Dundee and training in pattern cutting at London College of Fashion.

Now living in and running her business from Glasgow, the womanswear designer is excited to show off her “season-less” collections at the internationally-acclaimed event, which is running in both physical and digital forms from today (Thursday) until Tuesday, September 22.

Laura’s work focuses on “slowing down the fashion cycle” and aims to encourage “conscious consumption”.

The brand’s collections have received praise for their 1930s elegance, flattering cuts and luxurious colours and fabrics.

Laura told the Advertiser: “Thanks to our design and production processes we’ve managed to grow our little label during the pandemic.

“Our slow and considered approach reflects how many of us are adapting to life now. We’re all, now more than ever, aware of our impact on our environment.

“By launching new pieces using sustainable materials, for pre-order, we’re able to better manage our resources, and offer newness and excitement to our customers.”

Laura added: “Pre-order allows us to better manage waste reduction and carbon footprint by only producing according to what is ordered at any one time.

“Furthermore, each drop also promises to launch a dedicated charity piece, with a percentage of profits from the piece donated to the chosen charity.”

London Fashion Week, which will predominantly take place online this year due to the coronavirus pandemic, will feature more than 80 designers showcasing the best in the fashion business, with members of the public able to view parts of the schedule at londonfashionweek.co.uk.
