MEMBERS of the Plastic Free Helensburgh (PFH) group are holding their second virtual litter pick week and locals are invited to get involved.

The PFH team is asking people to take part in the clean-up effort by tidying up their local area, taking before and after pictures and recording which types of litter are collected.

The virtual litter pick week follows on from a similar initiative organised by the group last month.

The event, running from September 19-26, coincides with World Clean-Up Day on Saturday, September 19.

PFH members are backing three organisations and their campaigns: Surfers Against Sewage’s ‘Big SAS Beach Clean: Summit To Sea’, running from September 5 to October 18; the Marine Conservation Society’s ‘Great British Beach Clean’, running from September 18-25; and Keep Britain Tidy’s ‘Great British September Clean’, running from September 11-27.

Litter picks can be done alone, with friends or with family and PFH members hope that a joint community effort can make a difference to how much litter ends up in oceans.

Anyone taking part this weekend and throughout next week is encouraged to choose an area, take before and after photos of their litter pick and share them with the PFH group by emailing PlasticFreeHelensburgh@gmail.com.

Advice can be found in the announcements section of the ‘Plastic Free Helensburgh - Members’ Group’ - you must request to become a member - on Facebook. Please also ensure you have parental permission for photos of any children to be shared.
