THE prospects for a development of more than 100 new houses on the site of a former council office near Helensburgh remain unclear, according to a new report.

An update on Argyll and Bute Council’s attempts to sell its former planning office and surrounding land at Blairvadach in Shandon for housing went before Helensburgh and Lomond councillors last week.

The site is earmarked in the council’s local development plan for up to 112 residential units.

A report by council director Douglas Hendry, prepared for the authority’s Helensburgh and Lomond area committee, says a licence was agreed in November 2019 to allow a ‘preferred developer’ to carry out a series of investigations at the site.

But Mr Hendry’s report says: “It was anticipated that these surveys would be completed in early 2020, however this was delayed by the Covid-19 pandemic.

“A report is anticipated from the preferred developer summarising the outcome of their investigations and the proposed next steps.

“Given the impact of Covid-19 on the property market there is increased risk to larger projects of this nature, and we will be considering feedback from the developer and update the area committee once the position is made clear.”
