A HELENSBURGH man who smashed up the home of his partner earlier this year has been put under supervision by social workers for two years.

Robbie Peake appeared at Dumbarton Sheriff Court on September 16 for sentencing after previously pleading guilty to shouting, swearing, throwing a draining board and items of crockery to the floor, kicking cupboards and acting aggressively to his partner.

The May 18 incident at the property at The Fairway in Garelochhead, also saw Peake, of Hood Court in Helensburgh, recklessly destroy or damage property and smash several photo frames in the living room, punch a hole in the room’s door, pull the fridge freezer to the floor and pull down handles from kitchen cupboards.

The offences were regarded more seriously by prosecutors because Peake’s partner or former partner was the victim.

However, the hearing was told the victim had declined to ask for a non-harassment order to be imposed on Peake.

Defence solicitor Kenny McGowan said: “He doesn’t shy away from the fact that he needed assistance.”

Sheriff William Gallacher said: “This simply should not have happened. I accept you have difficulties in the past. It’s simply not acceptable - it’s not okay.

“I’m not satisfied I need to impose a custodial sentence.”

Peake will be on a community payback order for two years with supervision by social workers and mental health treatment or care as directed.

There will be a review of his progress on November 18.
