ANOTHER three people have died in Scotland after contracting coronavirus, the First Minister has announced.

A further 668 cases have also been recorded in the past 24 hours.

Nicola Sturgeon says no changes will be made in today's review of lockdown guidelines, with the next review set to take place on October 15.

The latest deaths bring the toll among people who have tested positive to 2522.

The new cases represent 10.8% of newly tested individuals and mean the total now stands at 29,912.

Some 154 people are in hospital with confirmed Covid-19, an increase of 15 on the figures reported 24 hours previously.

Of those, 17 are in intensive care, a rise of two.

Provisional information suggests 244 of the new cases are in Greater Glasgow and Clyde, 166 are in Lothian and 123 are in Lanarkshire.

The other 135 cases are divided among nine other health board areas.

The First Minister, providing an update in the Scottish Parliament, also said the R number – the rate of virus transmission – remains above one, and could be as high as 1.7.

It was also revealed that more than 1.3 million people have now downloaded the Protect Scotland app, with more than 2000 people contact traced as a result.
