A CAR was seized in Helensburgh town centre last week after police reportedly discovered its driver did not have a valid UK licence.

Police Scotland officers stopped a Volkswagen Polo in Sinclair Street shortly after 6pm on Monday, October 5 to carry out a routine vehicle check and ensure that road traffic legislation was being complied with.

According to police, the driver, who identified himself as a 22-year-old Romanian man living at an address in Paisley, did not hold a full UK driving licence.

He was charged with driving without a licence and without insurance, and the vehicle was seized.

A report on the alleged offence will be sent to the procurator fiscal.
