OUTLANDER star Sam Heughan has done something “crazy” and given his phone number to everyone on Twitter.
The Scots actor, best known for playing Jamie Fraser in Outlander, posted a short video of himself online this evening, along with his phone number and the simple message “This is crazy”.
In the video, Heughan says: “I love social media … but it’s a total minefield. From adverts to whatever’s trending to people catfishing or pretending to be myself or anyone else (I don’t know why you’d want to do that).
“But what I’ve decided to do is, I’m going to give you my phone number.”

This is crazy! 😘 pic.twitter.com/bjgTlZB7wH
Heughan cautions that the number will only work for people in the US and Canada at the moment, but asks people to text him on +1 310 356 3929.
The number is an American one, and there is no reason why it shouldn’t work outside that country.
When The National rang it from Glasgow, it worked.
We have also sent the number a text, but have not yet received a reply.
Heughan said he would be texting those who got in touch to talk about “some great opportunities” and “amazing projects” he has coming up, or, he adds, “just talk rubbish and share a whisky”.
Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers?
We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions about the future of our country.
Unfortunately, though, these important debates are being spoiled by a vocal minority of trolls who aren’t really interested in the issues, try to derail the conversations, register under fake names, and post vile abuse.
So that’s why we’ve decided to make the ability to comment only available to our paying subscribers. That way, all the trolls who post abuse on our website will have to pay if they want to join the debate – and risk a permanent ban from the account that they subscribe with.
The conversation will go back to what it should be about – people who care passionately about the issues, but disagree constructively on what we should do about them. Let’s get that debate started!
