HERMITAGE Academy pupils who live in Cove and Kilcreggan have been advised to self-isolate after three positive Covid-19 cases at the Helensburgh school.

Argyll and Bute Council has confirmed the move after a Kilcreggan-based parent contacted the Advertiser with details of a message from the school to parents in the Kilcreggan and Cove areas.

In the message, the school says that only pupils identified as a close contact need to self-isolate.

The council said that there was currently no evidence of transmission of Covid-19 either within the academy or on the bus from Kilcreggan.

A council spokesperson said: “We are aware that there are three positive Covid-19 cases at the school and this may cause some local anxiety in the community.

"We are working closely with NHS Highland’s Health Protection Team and will be guided by their advice.

“Close contacts have been identified and have been advised to self-isolate. All pupils on the school bus from Kilcreggan have been identified as close contacts and have also been asked to self-isolate as a precautionary measure.

"There is currently no evidence of transmission within the school or the bus itself.

“The school remains open and, unless they have been identified as a close contact, pupils should continue to attend if they remain well.

"Children and staff should not attend school if they develop any of the common symptoms.”

In the message to parents, the school said: “Public Health has confirmed that an S5 pupil tested positive for Covid-19 over the weekend.

“The pupils identified as being in close contact have been contacted by Public Health and we are asking that they self-isolate at home.

“They have also been told that there is no need to have their child tested as long as they remain symptom-free.

“Families have also been informed that it is only the pupil identified as a close contact that needs to self-isolate. Other members of the household can continue normal activities.”

The school bus service to Hermitage from Cove and Kilcreggan is thought to be used by around 50 pupils.

Garelochhead Coaches, which runs the bus, and the Argyll and Bute Health and Social Care Partnership have been approached for comment.
