POLICE charged a man with three motoring offences near Helensburgh after allegedly finding him more than four times the legal limit.

Officers in an unmarked police vehicle on the A82 at Arden at 10.45am on Saturday, November 7 saw a blue Mercedes swerving over the centre lines on the road, while the driver was also reportedly seen using his mobile phone at the wheel.

Police in a marked vehicle attended the scene and stopped the car, before identifying the driver as a 41-year-old man from Larkhall.

Officers also noticed a strong smell of alcohol from the driver and took a breath sample, which police say gave a reading well in excess of the limit.

The man was arrested and taken to Clydebank police office where further readings were taken which reportedly confirmed the initial breath sample.

The man was charged with drink-driving, careless driving and using a mobile phone at the wheel.

He was released when sober and will appear in court at a later date.

The drink-drive limit in Scotland is 22 microgrammes of alcohol in 100ml of breath or 50mg in 100ml of blood.
