HELENSBURGH’S new Morrisons supermarket welcomed a celebrity customer last week - in the shape of a four-legged feline.

George the cat paid a visit to the groceries store on Friday, December 4 following its grand opening the day before - and the town’s most famous pet was quick to inspect the fishmonger’s selection, choosing some tasty fillets for his tea.

No stranger to the spotlight, George was met with great excitement at the store and Jackie Hood, daughter of owners Elizabeth and Dennis, presented staff with a George the Helensburgh Cat calendar in return for the treats.

A fire alarm which forced the temporary evacuation of customers on Thursday evening was the only minor glitch on opening day, while local children were invited to switch on the store's Christmas tree lights on Saturday.
