A CHARITY fund-raising water ski challenge which was set to take place on Loch Lomond on January 1 has had to be cancelled.
Organisers of the Loch Lomond Water Ski Club’s annual New Year’s Day event, which has attracted brave competitors in fancy dress for more than 30 years, have pulled the plug on the upcoming gathering due to the ongoing Covid-19 crisis and the current safety measures.
The most recent edition of the event, held on the first day of 2020, saw nine people take to the water and around 100 more watch on from the bonnie banks as almost £3,000 was raised for Alzheimer Scotland.

The event is normally held at The Boat House restaurant at Cameron House.
Announcing the cancellation, the water ski club’s president David Henderson said: “We would like to wish all our members and supporters a happy Christmas and a better New Year.”
Last month another annual tradition in the Helensburgh and Lomond area was scrapped for 2021 as the RNLI confirmed that the Ne’erday swim at Rhu Marina would not be going ahead due to the pandemic restrictions.
More than £1,300 was raised for the local RNLI branch after around 200 swimmers took the plunge into the Gareloch to welcome in 2020.
