A SOCIAL media page set up in Helensburgh to provide community help and support during the first coronavirus lockdown has sprung back into action.

Helping Helensburgh is one of numerous groups and pages on Facebook which had been put into cold storage as Covid-19 case numbers fell during the summer, but which have been reactivated to help people in the area manage through the tough restrictions introduced last week.

Announcing the group’s return, one of the page’s administrators said: “Given the new situation the admins of Helping Helensburgh have decided to do a ‘soft comeback’.

“There are many avenues for people who find they need assistance with shopping, prescriptions, support etc and at this time lockdown is not quite as severe as last March.

“After much thought and discussion we feel the best way we can help each other at this time is to keep this page up to date with information about how we can access help and support if we need it.”

There’s also a ‘pinned post’ at the top of the Helping Helensburgh page with a list of useful numbers and contact details.

Help is at hand for those who aren’t on Facebook too: Val Reynard, owner of The Toy Shop in West Clyde Street, has agreed to be a first point of contact for anyone needing help who doesn’t have access to Facebook.

The shop can be contacted on 01436 677500.
