A WEATHER warning for snow and ice is in place in Helensburgh from Friday evening as freezing temperatures take hold across much of Scotland once again.

The Met Office ‘be aware’ yellow warning is in place across all of the west of Scotland, and England, from 4pm today until 10.30am on tomorrow (Saturday, January 23).

The forecaster says that heavy snow may affect parts of the area where the warning is in place, with possible significant travel disruption.

The public are to expect “some injuries from slips and falls on icy surfaces”, and “probably some icy patches on untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths.”

Some roads and railways likely to be affected by snowfall, with longer journey times by car as well as bus and train services

Effects could include travel delays, stranded vehicles and passengers on some higher routes, potential road closures, delays or cancellations to rail and air travel, power cuts, interruptions to mobile phone coverage, and dangerous or impassable pavements and cycle paths.
