BASKETBALL, netball and football players will benefit from a recent funding award for Helensburgh’s Hermitage Park.

The Friends of Hermitage Park have received a grant of £500 from the Magic Little Grant scheme through the partnership between Localgiving and the Postcode Community Trust.

Postcode Community Trust is a grant-giving charity funded by players of People’s Postcode Lottery, and the Friends have used the cash to buy games equipment for everyone to use in the park.

The group have purchased two adjustable height basketball hoops for the plaza, along with basketballs and netballs, 10 footballs and also some skittles and quoits - rings of iron, rope, or rubber thrown in a game to encircle or land as near as possible to an upright peg.

Chair of the Friends, Fiona Baker, said: “The Friends are delighted to have been able to buy some games equipment for everyone to use in the park.

“We are very grateful to players of the Postcode Lottery who have made these Magic Little Grants possible.

“We have spent the money on equipment that can be enjoyed by all ages.

“It is a pity that we can’t make the kit available immediately as obviously we can’t encourage team games and sports under the current Covid restrictions.

“However, once people can meet up again we hope the equipment will be another attraction for users of the park.”
