PEOPLE in Helensburgh and Lomond are being urged to stay vigilant following reports of fraudulent calls claiming to be from Amazon.

Police say they’ve had reports of scammers telling residents they must pay a fee or provide bank details to solve an issue.

They may also request remote access to a computer or tablet.

PC Williams, from Police Scotland’s Safer Communities team in Argyll and West Dunbartonshire, said: “Fraudsters are often very convincing, and their scams are sophisticated, with the fraudster in some cases phoning the ‘customer’ back a number of times to ‘help’ and talk them through the ‘set-up’ process.

“Do not phone any number provided in a call unless you know it’s genuine.”

If you think you’ve been scammed, contact your bank immediately and then report the matter to Police Scotland on 101.
