MORE than four out of ten Argyll and Bute residents have now received their first dose of a Covid-19 vaccination, according to new government figures.

Public Health Scotland says that across the council area, 29,313 people had received their first dose of either the Pfizer or the Oxford AstraZeneca vaccine up till February 25 – 40.8 per cent of the area's total population.

That proportion is higher than for the NHS Highland health board area, where the figure is 103,782 (38.5 per cent) – while for Scotland as a whole, it's 1,542,929, or 34 per cent.

Daily figures for the number of people vaccinated in each health board and council area across Scotland were published for the first time on Friday.

However, unlike daily updates on Covid case numbers and infection rates, the vaccination data is not broken down into individual neighbourhoods, meaning it isn't possible – yet – to say how many people in Helensburgh itself have received their first dose of one of the vaccines.

The data makes it possible to track the jag progress across Scotland, with figures revealing how many first doses have been administered, as well as telling us the percentage of the population which has been vaccinated.

Leading the way in Scotland is the Shetland Islands Council area, where 45.9 per cent of the population has received their first jag, followed by Dumfries and Galloway (45.5 per cent) and South Ayrshire (45.4 per cent).

In last place is Edinburgh, where the figure is 26.3 per cent, with Glasgow (26.4 per cent) and Aberdeen City (27.4 per cent) next on the list.

Vaccinators have been making their way down the priority list set out by the government's Joint Committee on Vaccinations and Immunisations.

People over the age of 40 are next on the list for a vaccine, with scientific advisers saying the move would “provide the greatest benefit in the shortest time”.
