EIGHT men have been charged over their alleged involvement in a mass village brawl days before Christmas which left one person in hospital.

Police in Helensburgh attended a report of an ongoing disturbance involving several males in Main Street, Garelochhead at around 10.30pm on Saturday, December 19, and two teenagers were later charged with assault.

As previously reported in the Advertiser, a 48-year-old local man, suffered swelling to his face after he fell to the ground having allegedly been punched.

He briefly fell unconscious and sustained a cut to the head.

He was taken to the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley for a check-over and later released.

Two 18-year-olds, both from Garelochhead, reportedly punched two other men, aged 45 and 27, to the face and the culprits were the subject of a report to the procurator fiscal at the time.

It has now emerged that eight other men have been reported for alleged disorder offences following the altercation in the street.

Seven men, aged 17, 19, 22, 25, 27, 45 and 48, all from Garelochhead, and a 17-year-old from Clynder, are the subjects of reports to the procurator fiscal.
