A WORLD champion ice swimmer from Helensburgh has spoken about her twin passions for open water swimming – and the railways.

When she’s not going for a swim in the lochs of Scotland, Jade Perry works as a programme integration manager with Network Rail, which is responsible for the country’s railway infrastructure.

She talks about her twin passions in a new video produced by Network Rail and published on the company’s YouTube channel – published recently to mark National Careers Week.

In 2019 the Advertiser reported on Jade’s triumph at the World Ice Swimming Championships in Murmansk, Russia.

She won gold in her age group after finishing first in a race on a 25-metre pool carved out of the ice in Lake Semenovskoe with a chainsaw.

Burgh-based Jade set a British record in 2018 for the fastest one-kilometre ice swim in a time of 14 minutes and 55.1 seconds.

In the new video Jade describes how open water swimming “helps you value the environment we’re in and the impact we have on the built environment and how we can do things differently”.
