THREE Helensburgh town centre flats are the subject of a demolition notice submitted to Argyll and Bute Council planning chiefs.

The properties at 36 West King Street, and 60 and 60A John Street, are being earmarked for demolition by applicant Joe Lafferty.

In a written statement, architects have said that developers intend to replace them with four town houses, with green space and car parking.

An application form for the proposal said that the two-storey premises currently on the site are unoccupied and are required to be demolished to allow plans for the town houses to proceed.

The council is expected to provide feedback on the plans, which are listed as a prior notice of demolition, by late April.

Dumbarton-based StudioTed Architecture said in a planning statement: “The site, post-demolition, will be left in a condition complying with Regulation 10.

“The site will be secure using heras (mesh panel) fencing to ensure that unauthorised personnel cannot enter the site.

“The developer’s intention is to progress with the development of four town houses and associated green space/car parking.

“It is intended that the development will be sited toward the north of the site with parking and green space provision south facing.

“Potential material use will include roof tiles, brickwork and roughcast. It is anticipated that each town house will be three or four-bed over three storeys.

“It is intended that discussions with the Argyll and Bute planning department will start imminently with a planning application being submitted during the third quarter of 2021.

“An application for building warrant approval will be made soon after with a view for site commencement to be towards the end of 2021 into 2022.”
